Canada from the United States — no eTA required
US citizens are exempt from Canada's electronic travel authorisation. There is nothing to apply for and nothing to pay, whatever a booking site tells you at checkout.
You do not need a visa for this.
There is no application and no fee. Do not pay anyone for a document this authority no longer issues you.
What is required
US citizenship, not merely US residence
RequiredThe exemption is for US citizens. Lawful permanent residents of the US are a different case and do need an eTA to fly to Canada, along with proof of their status.
A valid US passport

What the authority charges
Nothing. There is no fee, because there is nothing to apply for.
These go to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, not to us. We never add anything to a government fee.
Decision time: Nothing to process. You present your passport at the border.
What cannot be done for you
Nothing. There is no physical step on this route at all, and nobody needs to handle your passport.
